Organisations are sociotechnical systems; which means they include not only the classic hard engineering components, but also people. We can follow tried and tested methods and do detailed calculations to create excellent engineering; but if it is devoid of the connection with the human social system then it will be neither efficient nor effective. Engineering excellence requires man and machine to be operating in harmony.
At Pandora we can provide the relatively simple excellent engineering; however, we prefer to understand the complexity that includes the human social system so that we can have engineering excellence. This means considering any changes in the social system; including behaviours, procedures and anything else that people do. This covers not just the front line operator, but also the whole company and customers, as well as suppliers.
With over 30 years of experience in hard engineering design we can deliver effective technical solutions that are also cost effective, on a tight schedule. However, they need to be operated safely and that includes looking at human performance.
This does often lead us to work very much in the social system with tools that were originally developed by ICI in the 1970's and 1980's. This work is typically carried out by our sister company BakerFish.
