In the late 1990's Olaf Diegel developed the Design Breakdown structure as part of his PhD.  The method was developed to integrate the design phase with the better know Work Breakdown Structure for project delivery.  Ed Fish assisted in working out some of the details and alpha testing of the software that implements the concept; InnovationWorks.  The methodology which follows the flow of human thinking when problem solving has been show to reduce time to idea by as much as 30% as well has having a significant impact on the level of innovation; which can reduce cost and increase customer attraction.
